An LED base lights a photo crystal from below, helping the internal engraving stand out against its surroundings. It does not change the portrait or add detail that was missing from the source photo. You can display a crystal without a light base; the choice depends on the room and the available product options.

What the light changes

The engraved image is made of small internal marks that become visible as light interacts with them. A base provides a consistent light source, which can make the image easier to see in a dim room. In a bright room, the difference may be less pronounced. Reflections, the background behind the crystal, and the viewing angle also affect the display.

What a base cannot fix

Lighting cannot sharpen an out-of-focus source photo, reveal a face hidden behind another person, or turn a monochrome engraving into the original color image. Start with the photo selection checklist and read our explanation of subsurface engraving before choosing accessories.

Check the base before ordering

Base features vary between designs. A rotating base, a wooden base, and a simple light base should not be assumed to offer the same functions. Check the actual options rather than relying on the accessory shown in a lifestyle photo.

  • Confirm that the base is suitable for the selected crystal size.
  • Check whether the base is included or a separate option.
  • Read the stated power requirements and included accessories.
  • Check the available light color or modes if these matter to you.
  • Measure the display space and use a stable, level surface.

How this applies to the Iceberg Crystal

The Personalized Iceberg Crystal offers its own base configurations. Select the option you want and review the updated total. A base pictured beside a crystal does not automatically form part of a Crystal Only order. Ask through our contact page if a feature is unclear.

Choose for the recipient's room

A lit display may suit a shelf or desk where the engraving would otherwise blend into the background. A crystal without a base can suit a bright room or a recipient who prefers a simpler display. Consider nearby power access when the selected base requires it.

Questions to help you choose

Is an LED base required?

No. It is a display option. Check how the crystal looks in the intended room and whether the chosen product offers a compatible base.

Is every base rechargeable or Bluetooth-enabled?

Do not assume those features. Only rely on the functions listed for the specific base configuration you select.
